BIOEN

Outcome

Continental Convention Outcomes

Anticipated outcomes of the continental conventions comprising Stage 1 of the GSB project are as follows:

   1. Gather input on structuring the analysis to be carried out in Stages 2 and 3.
   2. Draft a common resolution addressing the importance of bioenergy and the goals of the GSB project.
   3. Approve resolutions representing perspectives on bioenergy from each of the continents in which GSB meetings will be held.
   4. Write a report encompassing a, b and c.
   5. Recruit participants and support for stages 2 and 3.

Gathering input on structuring the analysis to be carried out in Stages 2 and 3 will be accomplished in breakout sessions held at each convention. Convention attendees are invited to submit abstracts for short presentations at the breakout sessions, and also to submit written materials, which specifically address structuring analysis for stages 2 and 3 of the GSB project.

Breakout Sessions

The breakout sessions will be (inter)active events in which participants discuss key issues related to the GSB project's goals:

   1. Follow-up actions that are required to make the next stages of the GSB project a success. Important issues that will be discussed include: (i) key objectives and approaches for (meta)analysis in future research; (ii) identification of key stake-holders and scientific expertise/experts that should be involved, (iii) definition of the structure of the project and procedures for communication with society and decision makers.
   2. The contents of a common resolution endorsing the global potential of bioenergy and the importance of the commonly agreed goals of the GSB project, which will be intensively discussed during the meeting.
   3. The contents of continental resolutions.

Resolutions

Common Resolution. Input on the common resolution will be gathered in breakout sessions and in the plenary session at each continental convention. After all five conventions have been held, a drafting committee will finalize the wording of the common resolution. The sixteen person drafting committee is to consist of two elected delegates and one member of the organizing committee from each continental convention as well as one member of the GSB steering committee. To initiate this process, a draft common resolution has been developed by the organizing committee.

Continental Resolutions. Continental resolutions will be discussed in breakout sessions. It is anticipated that final wording of the continental resolution will be agreed upon at each continental convention.
