SPRINT 3rd Edition 2014 - Guideline: GEC

Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from GEC (Groupe des Ecoles Centrales and Supélec)

FAPESP and GEC signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on July 4th 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the GEC, France, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.

Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such a collaboration, FAPESP and GEC make public this Call for Proposals aiming at facilitating the exchange of faculty members or postdoctoral researchers, in order to prepare common research projects under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 3 rd Edition 2014 (www.fapesp.br/en/9055) and hereinafter set forth.

1. Eligibility from GEC side

1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:

- All researchers involved In a research activity in one of the laboratories associated to one of the schools of the GEC are welcome to apply to this Call, under the following conditions:

a. the project must belong to the research field defined hereafter,

b. the project is a joint project involving at least one Brazilian team defined as eligible by FAPESP,

c. each researcher is allowed to apply only to one project of this call.

1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:

a. Principal or Co-Principal Investigators,

b. Associated Researchers affiliated to the laboratories linked to the GEC.

2. Fields of knowledge

This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in the field of Energy and Environment: of particular interest are projects related to the production, transformation and distribution of energies. Their availability, their impact on the environment and the management of the distribution networks are also of interest in the frame of the present proposal.

3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers

The duration of each project is up to 24 months, non-extendable.

4. Funding principles

FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of € 8.000 (eighth thousand euros) per proposal and GEC will provide funding of up to € 8.000 (eighth thousand euros) per proposal to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8892). Under this call, at least 5 (five) awards will be made jointly by FAPESP and GEC.

5. Proposal characteristics f or GEC researchers

Researchers of GEC research units involved or planning to involve themselves in research cooperation with researchers of the State of Sao Paulo. The proposal, in English, consists of an identical research project of about 5 pages, to be submitted to both Parties The exchange activities to be carried out by the researchers and fellows from São Paulo must be thematically related to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP.

Important: the Brazilian PI must send the same proposal to FAPESP.

6. Submission of proposals to GEC

The proposals should be sent by mail to call.Fapesp-Gec@ecp.fr.

7. Analysis and result

Each Party will select the proposals according to its own procedures. Only the proposals selected by both Parties will be funded. For GEC, proposals will be evaluated by independent experts.

The proposals will be pre-qualified and, subsequently, analyzed by way of a competitive process which will evaluate the merit and relevance of the project, the relation of the proposed project to the ongoing project funded by FAPESP, the capacity of the proposed project to leverage further research funding, and the strategic research aims of GEC.

Proposals that do not comply with the terms of this Call will not qualify for analysis.

Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and GEC (www.ecp.fr “Actualités”, and www.ecp.fr/recherche) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.

8. Grants for selected projects by GEC

Selected proposals will be the object of an agreement between the Pl and a representative of the higher Education and Research Institution to which he is affiliated.
