Born in São Paulo, he is a Chemical Engineer, Master and Doctor in Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. He professionally worked at PROMON Engenharia (1972 -1977) as Project Coordinator and ULTRA as Project Coordinator, Development Director and President of Oxiteno S.A. (1992-2006). Between January 2007 and December 2012 he was President of ULTRAPAR Participações S.A.
He is President of the Superior Council of ANPEI-National Association for Research, Development and Engineering of Innovative Companies. President of the Superior Council for Innovation and Competitiveness of FIESP, Member of the Management Committee for Business Mobilization for Innovation (MEI-CNI), Member of the Superior Council of the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP).
He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of ULTRAPAR Participações S.A., and a member of the Board of Directors of EMBRAER S.A. and CENTRO DE TECNOLOGIA CANAVIEIRA S.A.
