Scientific Director
Márcio de Castro is a full professor in the Departament of Genetics at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture of the University of São Paulo (USP). He has been Pro-Rector of Graduate Studies at USP and visiting scholar at the University of Melbourne and Ohio State University.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from the Federal University of Lavras and his PhD in plant molecular biology from the University of Louvain in Belgium.
He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences. He has served as the president of the Brazilian Society of Genetics, a titular member of the National Technical Commission for Biosafety, and the chair of the National Forum of Pro-Rectors of Research and Graduate Studies.
He has also held various positions at CAPES, the Ministry of Education’s agency for higher education personnel development, where he has been the Head of Biological Sciences I, the director of International Relations, and the director of Programs and Scholarships in Brazil.
