Ariel Mariano Silber

Ariel Mariano Silber obtained his degree and PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires. In 2000 he got a Post-Doctoral position funded by FAPESP at the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Chemistry – University of São Paulo, where he made his firsts experiences in trypanosomatids metabolism.

In 2004 he was granted by FAPESP as a Young Investigator (Young Investigators Award Program) to start his own lab and his present research line. Two years later, he became a member of the Department of Parasitology at the Institute for Biomedical Sciences – University of São Paulo, where presently is developing his academic activities as Associate Professor.

His main scientific interests rely on understanding the bioenergetics and metabolism of trypanosomatids with focus on the species that are pathogenic for humans, as well as their metabolic interactions with their vertebrate and invertebrate hosts. In 2010 together with Prof. Carsten Wrenger initiated a joint lab named Unit for Drug Discovery, which is dedicated to identify and characterize new drug targets and evaluate new drugs against parasites.
