André Gustavo Tempone

André Gustavo Tempone holds a degree in Pharmacy (1997), a master (1999) and a PhD degree (2003) in Parasitology at University of Sao Paulo. During his PhD in 2001, he worked at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2001) with Prof. Simon Croft.

In 2004, he moved to his current position and is a scientific researcher VI at Instituto Adolfo Lutz (Secretary of Health of Sao Paulo). Since 2004, he coordinates the Laboratory of Applied Toxinology on Antiparasitic Drugs and since 2009, is the vice-director of the Center for Parasitology and Mycology.

Aiming the discovery of novel anti-Leishmania and anti-Trypanosoma cruzi drugs, his group study the antiparasitic potential of natural, synthetic and repurposed compounds, with focus on the mechanism of action of drugs, pre-clinical studies, combination therapy and drug delivery systems.

Dr. Tempone has international collaborative projects with nine universities in Europe and USA and since 2011, he coordinates a project with the British pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline-Trust in Science, to study the potential of buparvaquone in visceral leishmaniasis.
