Synthesis Science - Trends and Perspectives

This webinar aims to bring to the audience a current view of synthesis science, from the trends and perspectives observed by the directors of synthesis centers in the United States and Canada. The intention is to discuss the transformative power of synthesis science: its ability to induce changes in scientific practices and science/society relationships.

02:15 pm - Diane Srivastava, Director of the Canadian Institute of Ecology and Evolution (CIEE) and professor at British Columbia University (Vancouver, Canada). She has interests in aquatic insects within water-filled bromeliads, functional effects of tropical forest fragmentation, and microarthropod food webs in moss patches

02:35 pm - Ben Halpern, Director of the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) and professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USA). He works in research on marine ecology and at the interface between ecology and human dynamics, with the ultimate aim of informing and facilitating conservation and resource management efforts in marine systems
